A couple of weeks ago we received the best news we could have hoped for!
We were on holidays in America while the Australian Meat Industry Council (AMIC) National Sausage King Awards were being held in Perth. I got a text message from the NSW member services officer saying our Balgowlah Beef Burger had picked up FIRST PLACE in the Best Butchers Beef Burger category. He was as excited as we were as it was also the only first place from a NSW shop in the whole competition!
In hindsight, we really should have sent someone over to claim the victory but everyone had things on!
The National event was the culmination of the year-long regional and state Sausage King Competition. AMIC’s flagship event started in 1994, with the introduction of the burger categories in 2015 – beef and gourmet.
We have been entering the competition for the past seven years and as many of you know, regularly placing in the regional rounds for our sausages. We have also gained a handful of places in the state rounds over the years but had yet to achieve that elusive first place at state level, which would put us through to the national competition. In October last year, we finally got it!
So what makes these beef burgers so special? We, of course use only the freshest, locally sourced, grass fed beef cuts, minced and mixed with Spanish onion, carrot and parsley.
To say we’re proud is an understatement, and to be able to provide Australia’s best butchers beef burgers to our lovely local customers makes us truly happy. To be honest, winning the best butchers beef burger category took us by surprise because we’re usually focusing on the sausage categories, but the simplicity and freshness of our burger recipe really speaks for itself.
Last weekend, our friend Tim took some photos of our burgers to use on social media and hopefully in some press coverage. The brief to him was very vague and his reply was, “I know, you just want some really sexy burger shots.” Exactly! So Tim had a great time and has given us some beautiful pictures of our burgers that will make your mouth water – now they really do look like Australia’s Best Butchers Beef Burger! He’s written up a post about the shoot, including some great cooking tips – you can find it here and also check out his blog at www.timmyfoody.com – thank you Timmy!

To celebrate the win and make Australia’s Best Butchers Beef Burger easier to enjoy, we’ve also put together a couple of combo packs with some of our best condiments. The Best Burger Pack includes 6 Balgowlah Beef Burgers, 6 Gourmet Burger Buns, a jar of McClure’s Pickles of your choice and a bottle of Lillie’s Q Barbeque sauce of your choice. We think this is everything you need (maybe with a slice of cheese added) to enjoy our burgers in the best possible way, and also saves you $20 off the retail price.
There’s also the Best Burger Combo which is 6 Balgowlah Beef Burgers and 6 Gourmet Burger Buns. Once you’ve stocked up on the jar of pickles and the bottle of sauce, this is the pack you need the next week when you’re craving Australia’s Best Butchers Beef Burgers again!
We’ll be launching them this week and they’re available on our website and in store by pre-order to make sure the buns are at their freshest.
We’d like to again thank our loyal customers for your support of our innovative products and invite you in again soon to have a look at our sparkling new trophy and new window artwork!
Cheers,
Stef
